Montefiore
Before we made it to Gehenna, we passed through a Jewish neighborhood founded by the philanthropist Montefiore. It was the first Jewish residency outside of the Old City. It contained a beautiful park, in which one could see a Greek Orthodox tomb,a cave that may have originally contained a Byzantine Church, and a windmill. We passed a newly-wed couple taking pictures in front of a recreation of Montefiore's carriage.
